Libros is a small personal project to help people read public-domain classics. This page explains what data is involved and how it is treated. It is written in plain language on purpose.
Who runs this
Libros is operated by the project maintainer as an experimental / dogfood product. There is no separate company behind it at this stage. For privacy questions, open an issue on the project repository or contact the operator of the deployment domain.
What the site does today
- Serves a curated catalog of public-domain books and a web reader.
- Saves your reading position in your browser (via
localStorage) so you can resume on the same device. - Does not require an account to browse or read.
Data we process
On your device (not sent to us by default)
- Reading progress — which book, chapter, and block you last read, stored in your browser’s local storage.
- Display preferences — if we store theme or font size locally, that stays on your device as well.
Clearing site data for this domain, or using a private window, removes that information. We cannot recover it.
On our servers / hosting
- Technical logs — like most websites, our host (Cloudflare) may process standard request metadata (for example IP address, user agent, URL, timestamps) for security, reliability, and abuse prevention.
- No marketing profile — we do not run third-party advertising trackers on the reader.
Accounts (planned, not required for reading)
We plan to offer optional sign-in (likely Google only) so reading position and shelves can sync across devices. When that ships:
- We expect to store a stable account identifier from the provider (for example Google’s subject id), and optionally display name / avatar if provided.
- We do not plan to collect email just for newsletters. If email is ever stored, it will be for a clear purpose and, for marketing, only with opt-in.
- Cloud-synced progress and shelves would be stored so the service can work for you.
- You will be able to sign out; we will provide a way to delete account data on request.
Until accounts exist, nothing in this section is collected by us for login.
Why we process data
- Provide the reading site and keep it secure.
- (Later) Sync progress and shelves if you choose to sign in.
We do not sell your personal data.
Cookies
Today, reading progress uses local storage, not cookies. If we add login, we will use an essential session cookie so you stay signed in. We will not use non-essential tracking cookies without saying so here.
Who else is involved (processors)
- Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, and related infrastructure for serving this site.
- Google — only if/when you use Google sign-in; their auth screens and terms apply to that step.
How long we keep data
- Local progress: until you clear it or your browser removes it.
- Server logs: according to our host’s defaults / what we need for security.
- Account data (later): while your account exists, or until you ask us to delete it.
Your choices
- Use the site without an account.
- Clear browser site data to wipe local progress.
- When accounts exist: sign out, and request deletion of server-side account and progress data.
Children
Libros is not directed at children under 13 (or the higher age required in your country for digital consent). Do not create an account for a child if we offer accounts later.
Public-domain books
Book texts come from public-domain sources (for example Project Gutenberg). Attribution for each work appears on the work page. That content is not personal data about you.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update the date at the top of this page. For account features, we will keep this page aligned with what the product actually stores.
